I think I mentioned before my disillusionment on getting to know pretty well some SDS people back in the 60s and finding out they really had no objection to concentration camps, they just differed on who should be on which side of the wire.

>The thought that controlling the public's access to information and limiting free speech can appear so "acceptable" when the speaker is someone on the other side of the political spectrum is scary isn't it?

>>Since arriving in Canada I've been accused of thought crimes, threatened with criminal prosecution for speeches I hadn't yet given and denounced on the floor of the Parliament (which was nice because that one was on my "bucket list").
>>
>>Posters advertising my speech have been officially banned, while posters denouncing me are plastered all over the University of Ottawa campus. Elected officials have been prohibited from attending my speeches. Also, the local clothing stores are fresh out of brown shirts.

>>>Wow. I wouldn't be using any of the "those Right Wing Extremists are dangerous" slogans any time soon (unless they also use those left-wing extremists in the statement) :o) Who would've thought Canadians had it in them? :o)

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
