Database01.d??, TableA01.dbf, Table01, Database02.d?? and so on. Then whenever you open a database or a table you would need to have the code to use the name with the appropriate company suffix.

I'm not sure where did you get this impression, but, IMHO, this new idea is much worse than having records for different companies stored inside the same centralized database.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
