Well... you can do that... it's just not integrated into the superb cursor/view model that we are all 'spoiled' with in VFP. You have to programatically use ADO.
However, it is my understanding that, other than the COM blocking issues, a major goal for the service pack (not sure if they mean 1st or second) is to integrate ADO into views more smoothly and make them more of an 'internal' class rather than having to use Ken Levy's DBF2RS and RS2DBF.
BTW: Where in MS's marketing materials do they say that VFP is the 'Premier Middle Tier' tool?
