I'm pretty convinced it's correct, and as matter of fact both are probably ok. For example:
We noticed some statistical information about this item's activity.
We noticed some statistical information about this item activity.
...now both of those are grammatically correct. The first one would imply that there is a bunch of activity for a specific item. The second one would imply that the item itself has had some activity. ahhhh the fun of English.
