ISTR at one point you were spreading the gospel of the workstation being dead, and the future being everyone using smartphones attached to sessions in a cloud somewhere. Has anything happened to give you new respect for workstations (like, say, an overloaded server? ;-))

LOL

I meant to distinguish between "server" and "database server". Doing stuff on an application server or (as you say) multiple servers, no issue. In this respect, the "server" effectively is a workstation serving one or more users without burdening the database server. Doing everything on the database server, different story.

FWIW everything I've done for almost 10 years is for the ASP model.

Cloud latency will go. And then those of us who leapt in will remember the early days with nostalgia, just as we remember 2400baud modems and Compuserve with affection. ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
