>>>I think it is already more interesting than the iPad. I just hope they get good battery life. ( an SD slot would have been nice as well. I think it said "USB Ports" plural. Hope that's correct ) Seems the key to this tablet thing is extensibility. That is part Apple never seems to get.
>>
>>Do you really want devices attached to a device that could not be simpler in form? The iPad is a thin rectangle, one piece. You can easily pass it around, use it in front of the TV with no juggling, slide it into a backpack, etc. Hanging a keyboard or something off it sounds like a colostomy bag to me.
>>
>>Maybe you should offer to help them get it, Charles ;-). These guys are completely clueless.

>I said nothing about a keyboard. An SD card adds storage. More than one USB port means being able to connect to other devices when using the thing ( a USB stick and an out to a projector or large display )

>The point is Apple's primary concern since 1980 or so has been making sure you cannot do anything with their device they don't approve and no one can make any peripheral or add on without blessing from The Steve. If they had had their way, the personal computer revolution would have gone much more the way IBM wanted it to than the way Microsoft made possible.

>They've been obsessed with "design" and marketing. Some good has come of that, of course, but mostly despite rather than because of the control freak nature of their 'vision'
>
>I understand many find their "eloquence" <g> and vision comforting and rather like the idea that they know what's best for us, just as many like the idea of their lives being run by Government Experts. Others just find it presumptuous and annoying <s> and are not particularly impressed.
>
>But after all, don't they refer to the nerds who help you open the box as "geniuses" (if Apples are so easy to use, why do they need "geniuses" to do tech support - or have the redefined "genius" to "priest" ?)

>I see John Edwards, Scientology and a Nobel Peace Prize. <bg> Lots of sizzle. Chewy steak. And a nanny that makes you eat it.

Eating my lunch al desko, just came across this. It isn't necessarily a counterargument, more like food for thought.

Part of Apple’s success is its ability to create products that don’t fill an obvious need, but through attention to design and user experience, produces something that delights users and challenges conventions. This was the case with the iPod, iPhone and now the iPad.
