I just have no desire to spend $ (and definitely not 500.00) for a tool that is really only good for browsing and email and running their silly apps - no matter how fancy or nice or intuitive the interface is. I don't get it. If you do, great. It obviously is a great fun toy for many. I have a friend who buys every single wonderful Apple gadget there is (which is how I manage to test them) and even buys other toys (like huge telescopes and cameras etc). I haven't been really impressed yet. I have to have real bang for my buck and the features or stuff have to be something I really want or need.

>>>Don't forget it's a reader as well. Millions have spent $250 a pop for Amazon's Kindle, which is only a reader, and inferior to the iPad even at that. (Smaller screen, black and white only, no way to switch between one page portrait and two page landscape views by turning it, etc.)

Of course not. But you can read a Kindle anyplace. I realize this will not effect the opinion of True Believers but it is a major consideration since the iPad is touted for its eBook capability among other things. I have a Dell M1210 with the same kind of screen it is terrific under the right lighting conditions and useless in others - including libraries with bright overhead light. The reflective screen is very shiny but not appropriate for a "go anywhere" device.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
