>Hi Mike.

>>The existing committee members are all tight and are going to choose who they want to regardless of the new vote. I would be surprised if they don't already know who they intend to name.

>I don't know why you're being so cynical about this. I can't make this plainer: we have NOT discussed this award in any detail other than how to proceed. It was actually Mike Feltman who emailed me asking about whether the award should continue. It was Tamar's idea to have the committee consist of previous recipients and someone from the community, and it was my idea (I think) to solicit nominations for the recipient from the community. That's it, that's all we've discussed. No hidden agenda, no pre-selected recipient. Also, do you really think Tamar or I, or anyone else on the committee for that matter, would be involved in something like you've suggested?

I have it on good authority* that you all meet on a private island off the coast of Georgia to control the world's banking system, use nefarious technology to vote for the worst on American Idol and rig the Irish Lottery.

* the internet. ( Of course I've also heard that you shouldn't believe everthing you see on the internet because that's how World War One got started )

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
