Back then in VFP7 I achieved this by replacing a command button with a container and a label on it, and some code in label.click that passed the event to container.click, which was where the event was acted upon. I think I even managed to have some color change when it was clicked or disabled. Had another one with an image and label next to the image or below it (simulating Outlook style sidebar)... so it can be done in VFP7. Of course, when we got colorable buttons in vfp8, I replaced them.
