That's totally BS if that is the case. I can understand not doing it at the finalist level - but it should have been done by the winners.
I heard Tamar say that it was impossible to get people write a case study. The case studies submitted for the competition were not suitable for publication. I agree with you about the winners. At least an article in a magazine that covers their industry would be good.
