Hey John,

VFP a goner? Quite the opposite - my point was that there should be focus more on the new ways it's being used and less on who excelled with it in the past. That's the way to reinvigorate the community IMHO. But, you know, not having been to a VFP conference in 4 years and frankly busy with other stuff I'm more than willing to be wrong.

>It's traditional to give a gong to a retiring chief judge as recognition for years of service. And there are posthumous awards too. So whether you consider VFP to be a goner isn't necessarily connected to an award promoted by a group of the few remaining active VFP insiders.;-) What does matter is that people are busy and attention spans are short: community needs to be engaged or at least feeling engaged in a process if their interest is to be maintained. IMHO this award complements VFPX and SWFox, both of which keep interest piqued and owe their existence to the same group of people as are promoting this award. So I don't see a problem- or a victim, unless the recipient is desperately trying to hide their former association with VFP. ;-) JMHO.
