In fact, I think it's pretty clear that anyone offering their time for the VFP community is doing it for love; those looking for money have moved on. You mean it wasn't always done for love? ;-)
FWIW I offered to be a presenter at this year's SWFox. I offered a) because VFP has been a source of considerable prosperity for so many and it's proper to give back occasionally, and b) because for the first time in years I wasn't obliged to be elsewhere during the conference. It would have to have been for love, since my focus these days is hardly affected by technology choices at all.
Do you know, I attend several meetings and conventions every year but never have made it to a VFP conference? Shame- it might have been nice to meet some of the disembodied colorful personalities in this community of ours. ;-) But I will be in Florida just before SWFox... fancy a pint? ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
