Embarcadero is putting money into Delphi development, but IMO, you'll eventually face the same future that you're looking at with VFP. Java still has some traction and Oracle says they'll keep working on it, but they've lost some of the originators of Java and there is some question about it's future direction. There are several Open Source options, such as Mono, Python, PHP, Ruby on Rails, etc. But my concern with community supported languages is what happens when the community stops carnig about it? That pretty much leaves .NET, which is still increasing it's traction, but is becoming as bloated as Java. I see Microsoft taking some steps to fix that, but it still has some to go.

I'm curious, why did you ask about Delphi? What are your issues with the products I mentioned?

This has nothing to do with whether .Net is a good tool etc. I am just interested in people's perspective or experience with Delphi and how effective it might be in replacing VFP when combined with the Advantage Database server.
