Is it possible to hide menu choices?

I have certain features that I want to be accessible by (and visible to), the MIS support staff. I feel that if I just grey them out the user will pester to have them...and knowing my upper level management...I would probably be directed to give the user access to these items. I don't want to do this since if these items are abused, it could put the validity of the data at risk.

I suppose I could append the items to the menu (depending on who is logged in), or I could (shiver) run a different menu for the MIS support staff....

What I'm hoping is to find out that menu items have a VISIBLE property I can set...and how to do it.
