Thanks very much for your reply. The reindexing didn't help, but I think it's not so much a search-type issue as a storage issue (old dbase). What I did was, rather than working directly with the dbase tables I copied them to VFP tables within the program and just processed those. It worked. This is temporary, so we can live with it.
