Thanks for the suggestion. Somehow I trashed the detailed message that explained that this question related to a convoluted reindex program with lots of nested ON ERROR SomeError = .T. that jumps in and out of two same-named databases. The error variable logic is wrong and I was trying to follow that.

I changed something and made matters worse. With some 100 tables and hundreds of tags, about 80% of the way through I get an OPEN dialog.

I was hoping for something like WONTOP() changed or whatever.

I can't find SET TABLEPROMPT in help, is that a version thing?
