He was one of the great musical losses during the craziness of the 60s, a passing hardly noted at the time. In retrospect he is recognized as the inventor of country rock. He was a lot more country than rock, an Alabama boy his whole life. What a voice. And he had the same thing going for him the apparent favorite on American Idol has going for her --:sincerity.
