>I will be in the market for a laptop soon for the home. I would like to be able to run Visual Studio .Net 2008 or 2010 on this PC and create both web and windows solutions. I had a WinXP Pro laptop in the past. I assume this new laptop will contain Windows 7.

Home Premium will allow you to do that.

The main difference with Home Premium vs Professional is that you can not join a windows domain (not fully, anyway). You also do not get Windows XP mode add-on.

If you don't need to join a domain and you don't need an XP box or can use a regular virtual machine, then Home Premium will work OK.
