I drove the Kansas Turnpike once while moving cross country. The part I will never forget is pulling over at a rest stop in the Flint Hills. I am not a believer in the supernatural but maybe some force guided me to that rest stop and not the one before or the one after. My legs were stiff from driving for hours in the same position and I went for a walk out behind the rest rooms and the snack machines. I came upon a plaque dedicated to Knute Rockne, the legendary Notre Dame football coach. It said that was where his plane went down. Talk about being jolted out of the doldrums of a long drive.
