I don't think there is any doubt that some (not all) of them are racist. They have been unhinged since Obama took office. You don't think there is a racial component to that? Or to the profiling of Hispanics in Arizona? (Along with 10 other states who are considering similar laws, including some like Nebraska where you wouldn't think it's much of an issue). What exactly is "suspicion" of being an illegal immigrant, anyway? Are you saying it's something other than what they look like?
No one seems to be talking much about what the Tea Party has done to the Republicans. Name a Republican legislator who isn't hiding under his or her desk in fear. As no less than Karl Rove has pointed out, this backlash against Hispanics is going to come back to bite them. Not this year, not with all the anger and the economy still not fully recovered. But a party this angry is not going to govern for long.
