Sure, just like several other noble governments (note 1) before them, who indefinitely hold prisoners (note 2) for the good of the people (note 3). Those governments will stop at nothing when caring for the greater good, and especially will not let themselves be hampered by some silly laws and conventions, such as "due process". Looks like the U.S. government is doing a big step to progress in that direction, too.

Note 1: Germany comes to mind, before and during World War 2; as well as several communist governments.

Note 2: Apart from sex offenders, this may include (depending in part on the country) maybe-terrorists, jews (and other minority groups), and anybody who may endanger the Grand Plan of the government by protesting against them.

Note 3: No need to consult those people, of course. The government knows what is good for us.
