http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cycling/news/story?id=5203604Bicyclist Floyd Landis, who won the Tour de France in 2006 only have it stripped away due to a positive drug test, has finally come clean and admitted he used drugs throughout his competitive cycling career. The more sensational part of the news is that he is accusing many others in the sport of doing the same. It's interesting to me that the early stories about this, initially reported by the Wall Street Journal, did not name any names. When I read them I was thinking, what about Lance? Sure enough, the new story says Lance Armstrong is indeed among those accused by Landis. I have been expecting this for years. For him to dominate a sport so rife with doping, for so long, while being clean himself defied belief.
Innocent until proven guilty and all that. Still, I don't think this is going to end well for Armstrong. Hopefully before this is all over he will make a long overdue mea culpa as Landis has done. Even if he is added to the growing heap of faux sports "heroes" there will be a burden off his soul.
