I do not care about entities moving from Oracle to SQL Server; all I mentioned was PL/SQL is a better language than T-SQL. For example, error handling.

For those who believe that SQL Server is meant to be used in all situations:

There is a reason why they are #3 in the world.

Hi, Bill, a couple of things:

1) Prior to T-SQL 2005, Error handling in T-SQL was abysmal. Microsoft implemented basic try-catch capabilities in 2005, to make transaction rollback and error logging/error raising better and simpler. I am not sure how that compares to Oracle on a practical basis because I haven't used Oracle in a very long time (it would not surprise me if Oracle's still had more functionality)

2) I don't know if you read through the entire article and some of the other links - but there is zero evidence that the Windows platform is the direct cause of what happened. As someone commented, was this the technology or the developers? Not one piece of information points to the former. The more likely scenario is the latter. Mission-critical applications abound that use the Microsoft .NET framework and SQL Server. The article itself (and ComputerWorld's coverage) makes very general and faulty conclusions.
