Posts should work like emails. Period. Try to think of it as an HR text-based system, and maybe you'll see what I'm getting at.

Surely "the way a forum works" is a man-made thing, not a force of nature, so there can be many shades of "correct". You may believe you know what is best, period, but I just go with the prevailing terms- which in many cases allows editing of posts at any stage.

feel free to post that you love stored procedures, and then while I'm reading it, feel equally free to edit and say that nHibernate can turn cattle into airplanes.

I'm not the one who said he loves stored procedures and nor would I attribute such powers to nhibernate any more than I would insist that somebody on the other side of the world somehow knows when I've read a post. But whatever.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
