It is time to call in the Professionals.

Using SPT accessing DB2 data files.

Situation: We find a none-conforming part within an assembly in our shop. This assembly belongs to a group of same assembly part numbers and these groups belong to a particular order.

So we have a Customer Order which has several Manufacturing Orders which has a multiple quantity of same part number assemblies.

My quest is to find out within this particular Customer Order, if this none-conforming part is used on any other group of assemblies. All of the assemblies are structured in the DB2 data files as parent to child.

My initial try was to take the known assembly part numbers from within the Customer Order along with the defective item number. Break each assembly down level by level(up to twelve as assemblies can have sub-assemblies which can have sub-assemblies etc down to detail level) and look at the bill of materials at each level for a match on my item. This takes way to long.

Logically I know from the first search many trails were tried that dead ended with out finding a match while only one trail found a match(I break the search here). While different top level seat assemblies may break down with slightly different trails I need to find a way to not try a trail already tried in a previous search that I know did not result in a match.
