Yes.

This is my second favorite holiday, after Thanksgiving. It's a tribute to those who deserve even more tribute than they get. We truly would not be the country we are if not for the efforts of those who have fought and died for our flag and our way of life. A day of tribute is meager observance.

One of the few times I have been genuinely mad at Allie was when I went with her and Emily to a Memorial Day parade two years ago. It wasn't much of a parade, just small town proper observance. Allie was unstimulated and while some old soldiers walked by she said something about move along, geezers. I realize she is part of the generation that has grown up with constant stimulation -- always on the cell, the internet, text messaging, Facebook, etc. -- but it really irritated me. I said look, Allie, this isn't just a day off from work and school. It's a tribute to people who fought and died in our wars. Those guys? -- they served with guys who don't get to walk slowly here today, so show a little respect. Not sure if she got the message or not. This is such a hyperstimulated generation, you're never sure what they get and don't get.
