The one thing that gets fiddly with trying to reuse old cases is if it's old enough (yeah, we're talking ancient -- like pre-ATX), none of the mounting points for the motherboards, power supply, or the positions of the interface cards don't quite match up. The one good thing about some of those really old computer cases is that they're solid -- not the thin "soda-can" metal you find today (especially worrisome are the cases that feel wobbly if you take some of the side panels off).

Speaking of computer cases... Many, many, years ago -- I remember reading an article in a magazine where someone used an actual pizza box (unused of course) for a "pizza box" form-factor case. The person added some extra hardware using sheet metal to provide mouting points for the motherboard, drives etc. And nowadays with LCD monitors replacing the old CRT, we now have the possiblity that one could even have a pizza box display...
