Sure, that's a real problem. By the way, another problem - that currently looms on the horizon - is the exhaustion of IP addresses (IP version 4, that is). In about a year, the central registry won't have any more available addresses; another year, and the regional registries will run out of addresses, too. That is an extrapolation of current trend, but it is possible, even probable, that companies will try to get lots of addresses at the last moment, so the Internet will run out of available addresses earlier yet.
IP version 6 is the recommended long-term solution, but we are still far away from a widespread use.
Reminds me of the Y2K problem, but there was way too much scandal about the Y2K problem. Here it is just the opposite: way too little scandal is being made about the IP exhaustion problem.
