You could do this in your select:

SELECT MainTable.SomeField,;
       NVL(LeftJoinedTable.NumericField, 0000000.00) AS NumericField,;
       NVL(LeftJoinedTable.CharField, SPACE(??))            AS CharField;
FROM ....
