>>>>>>Yes, as with any group, there are corrupt members here and there. But in defense of the police: They are a needed part of society and by the nature of their job, they deal with crimminals most of the time. It stands to reason that many would become jaded after continuously dealing with that sort of people. Some of them will crack and take action that they should not. That said, the police probably do not have the right to demand that taking pictures or video of an event be forbidden.

>>>I'm thinking there's a market for real-time video upload for this purpose - probably not to YouTube, maybe some secure server(s) somewhere. Can any smartphones do that yet?
>>
>>yeah smartphones can do that. There are several services right now that let you upload videos to various servers (such as youtube, dailymotion, googlevideo..etc etc) - suppose it would be easy enough to put something like that together. I know there is a twitter feed called injusticenews or something like that which tries to provide news on dirty cops - perhaps a joint venture with that guy would be a good starting point.

>Is the smartphone upload real-time, though? Regardless of when your phone gets grabbed by a cop, you need to be able to say, "Doesn't matter, the video's already uploaded". Also, it might be cool to have a deadman switch e.g. if you don't log on to the secure site, using that phone, and a PIN, within a certain time period, then the video is automatically forwarded to YouTube/news sites etc.

There are a few windows mobile apps that upload video in realtime. Qik is one and Bambuser is another - I had another one I forgot the name of it.
