We weren't exactly babes in the woods the morning of 9/11/01 and an ingenious group still broke through. Security has been ratcheted up since then, dramatically so, but I don't for a minute think it can't happen again, whatever we do. We have lost our innocence.
Contagious biological attack is the one that scares the hell out of me. It would make September 11th look like a pinprick.
American life truly did change forever that day. No wonder so many writers and artists of all sorts continue to grapple with it.
IMO the classic document is one of the early ones, HBO's special "In Memoriam." Unbelievable videos, many from amateurs, and an immediacy that cannot be duplicated in retrospect. It's rough going but I agree with Rudy Giuliani, who was front and center at the time and gave the filmmakers the full cooperation of his office, that it's important to remember. "It was like hell. It was like Dante's version of hell."

The part that always gets me -- well, most of them do -- are the parts with the woman in the mayor's office whose husband was a high ranking NYFD official who died in the WTC attacks. Crushing.
