No, its not a good sign, he is withdrawing. He needs a professional to talk him thru his demons, and sooner rather than later.

I agree that he needs professional help. But the point is that until he does something constructive to deal with his problems, there is very little that anyone else can do. IMHO, all the words of encouragement just enable him.
