If you can, you might want to join the live Servoy webinar I'm presenting starting in 45 minutes. See http://servoy.com/foxpro. I'll be showing ADS working with Servoy to connect to DBF data. Servoy is cross platform, and lets you build rich forms and web forms using the same designed form and code. The webinar will be record and online sometime after the event.

>I do not see an advantage of using Delphi over VFP with ADS. My main area of interest has been looking for alternatives to VFP since MS stopped developing VFP. I still have lots of VFP work but I am actively looking at alternatives. Since I like ADS I have been looking at all the client options that it offers and that is how I got to the Delphi connection. The potential benefit was that it is being actively developed and that I could used VFP tables with ADS to transition projects from VFP down the road. It also has the ability to develop standalone exe, fast executing code and types of applications that require third party tools in VFP. I do not have experience with the recent Delphi IDE but some people have indicated that it was not that stable in the past. The higher end version are quite expensive compared to VFP.

>My VFP work has gotten more involved with needing TCP/IP socket servers and services which VFP is not really designed for. I do have a VFP socket server running 24x7 now but I plan to change this in the near future as the load will increase and VFP will not be fast enough to handle this increase.

>>Hi Simon. What do you see as the possible benefit of using Delphi with Sybase ADS (Advantage Database Server) over using VFP with ADS? When using ADS as your database, then using VFP as the client to the data is just like using Delphi on the client - except that you get all the great features in VFP that aren't in Delphi. I'd be curious to know more about your thoughts on this and what you've learned and concluded since you originally posted this thread.

>>I've created some Sybase ADS for VFP related content you might want to check out. I wrote a full special issue of FoxRockX on the subject, available for PDF download. And I've posted an introduction screencasts. You can find those links on my blog at http://mashupx.com/blog/sybase/ and more related info on the http://sybase.com/foxpro portal (which will be updated soon).

>>>I was researching Advantage Database as a possible to tool to use with VFP tables and noticed that they had a Delphi Client. I owned Delphi a long time ago and remembered it had database tools etc. and it produced fast code so I just started to wonder about the combination. I also have some concern about the bloat around .Net.
