The original assertion ("nobody") was exaggerated for effect, i.e. hyperbolic. You've succeeded in proving it's not literally true, for whatever that's worth.Ha. I saw Tamar saying "you've missed the point entirely" and emphasizing her belief in setting baselines to which she received responses that society will set the baselines too high and the work ethic will collapse. Seems obvious to ask where this has happened in real life- apart from in Greece. ;-)
I'm sure that everybody agrees that there are spongers, but IMHO we have to grit our teeth and accept that keeping fleas off the dog 24/7 just makes the dog miserable.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
