That's the spirit! Pretty soon we can watch people dying in the street from lack of food, healthcare, shelter, and/or hope in their lives, and still be cheerful. <s> Although I've noticed that the people who would let them die in the street (so long as it's not their street) rather than give what they term handouts (one person's handout is another person's love for their neighbor) are rarely if ever cheerful. Discussions like this make me think even more highly of NZ and NL, I'll tell you. I haven't noticed people getting less work done in those countries, in spite of the presence of a civilized and humane form of support for those in need. And those I've meet from those 2 countries laugh a lot: maybe there's less to be depressed about...
