>>>>>>>>>>>The country's minimum wage and overtime law protects workers regardless of their immigration status.
>>>>>>>>>>Really?
>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>Yes - the law was designed that way.
>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>So do tax laws. Right?
>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>I'm not sure what you mean because this doesn't really make sense. I don't think tax laws were designed to protect any workers from anything so I don't know what this could have to do with the subject - however 2/3's of illegal immigrants actually pay taxes.

>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>Absolute BS report! Illegal immigrants almost unanimously do not pay income tax. Why would they? Where would they? What SSN? What employer? What federal tax form does their employer give them stating the below minimum wage the illegal immigrant that doesn't have a real SSN is getting?
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>Again you're not quite right about that. First of all the IRS doesn't track a worker's immigration status. Secondly I don't know where you came up with thinking you have to have a SSN to pay taxes - but you're wrong about that too. There is an alternative to the Social Security number offered by the IRS so it can collect income tax from foreign workers...any many illegal immigrants choose to do this.
>>>>>>>If you're talking about an illegal immigrant using a stolen SSN - well duh they're still paying income taxes. 'The impact on Social Security is significant because most of that money is never claimed by the people who pay it but instead helps cover retirement checks to legal workers' - and that's billions per year. Plus keep in mind a lot of these people are paying more in taxes each year than they actually should.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>
>>>>>>The people who sneak into this country illegally aren't necessarily completely stupid. Why pay taxes if nobody knows what you made? Continue to live in the country where 'enlightened' people are stupid enough to give you handouts, free medical care, free schooling (in your own language), etc. You get caught by the IRS? How much money is in your pocket? That's how much you've ever made here.
>>>>>
>>>>>Asking me 'why why why' doesn't change the facts. Read the USA article as it addresses some of these questions.
>>>>>..but back to my original point - the country's minimum wage and overtime law protects workers regardless of their immigration status, the IRS doesn't track immigration status, and 2/3's of illegal immigrants actually pay taxes. Sorry to bust yer bubble but that's just the way it is.
>>>>
>>>>The country's immigration laws say the ILLEGAL immigrants are here ILLEGALLY. They were here illegally before they were working. Throw them OUT! *THEN* let them sue for lost wages from their home country. Let them prove their cases.
>>>>
>>>>Don't try to find new ways to waste my taxpayer $$ to pay for them.
>>>
>>>I agree with you - they're here illegally - but that doesn't mean that the companies and employers here should be able to get away with ripping them off by breaking minimum wage and overtime laws either....which was the point of the article you pointed out in the first post.
>>
>>How about our government enforcing existing laws so employers can't hire illegals. I always thought that is why I had to have an I9 on file for each employee I hired. This entire issue is such a joke because of the politicians turning their back or maybe sticking their head in the sand.

>Well, it looks like Victor is the only one right now on the other side of this discussion...

>What about the poor souls just trying to do what our ancestors have done and make a living for their families? Shouldn't they have the same opportunity your ancestors did?

This is MikeB argument {g}, which I happen to agree with. Opportunity like this shoud by all mean exist - through good guest worker program.
