I didn't see the game so I don't know the play. But I still don't understand your point. What would have been ruined???? When do think I'm suggesting the referee consult? During the break???? Don't be silly. After the goal is score, if there is any controversy, the referee checks the replay and allows or disallows the goal. Instead of taking 45 seconds (or however long it takes to start back up after a goal) it takes a minute and 45 seconds. Hardly a significant difference.

>Football can be at its best when the action is end to end and non stop..
That soccer is non-stop action is a myth. As I said before, the action stops for a significant amount of time for a corner kick, free kick, and penalty kick. A similar stoppage perhaps twice a game would be (IMO) meaningless.

I'm not suggesting that every call be subject to review. And there probably would be some reviews that might disrupt the action. But to say that's more important than determining which team advances (or has a noticed by everybody but the referee hand ball that determines World Cup qualification) doesn't seem right.

Sure referee mistakes are part of the game. And some of them can't be rectified. But to have the fate of a team determined by a correctable mistake by a non-player in the game violates what I consider to be fair and violates what I consider to be the spirit of the game.

It also helps preserve the integrity of the game. I wonder how many people feel the only way a referee could get that call wrong was that he had been bribed. I don't buy that (but my boss does). Why not take that possibility completely out of consideration?

Side question
Injury stoppages (It seems very strange to see a player carried off on a stretcher and return less than 10 seconds later running at full speed)

Was there ever a time when the game continued while a player was injured on the field???
