Anyone know how I can display some static text over an animation?

I've tried ;

Using a .AVI and MS Animation control, but the animation is always "on top" so can't see label, using the web browser control has the same issue.

Using an animated .gif but the label does not appear 100% transparent - it has the background from the first frame in the animation.

Using static images and a timer to switch them - this creates a horrible flicker. Using GDIPlusX canvas control also causes a flicker.

Any ideas?
