The Mere Mortals .NET Framework
Frank,
Try setting the control properties for the text box to have the PlanFK field as the BindingSourceMember and Policies as the BindingSource. Then set the BindingType to 'None'.
I have done something similar to this in the past with success but I can't say with total certainty that this will work.

I have a Policy Form which allows the user to select a Plan from a gridview, I then display the Plan Code and Description in a text box by concatenating them. The Plan's Primary Key gets stored in Policies.PlanFK. The user must select a Plan as this field cannot be null/empty. How do I tell MM.NET to display the little red exclamation mark icon next to the Plan Code/Description textbox? Right now I get a message that the record cannot be saved and to check the error icons, but none is visible.
