It's not even a status issue (like it used to be in Britain and may still exist to some extent); now it's more "how much money do you have?" Or are you a relative or personal friend of someone with a lot of money or power??? A lot of supposedly diplomatic folks get caught in unbelievable crimes here and get off free and sent home (sometimes - sometimes they get to stay and have no repercussions).
