I'll take the part about "not a word of coverage anywhere" as a bit of conjecture. ;)

For instance:
Wall Street Journal - http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100730-718129.html
Marketwatch - http://www.marketwatch.com/story/two-florida-bank-failures-bring-2010-total-to-106-2010-07-30
LA Times - http://www.latimes.com/sns-ap-us-bank-closures,0,7275582.story

Some of us are paying attention, especially on Friday afternoon when the quiet news dumps happen.

>Five banks failed Friday in the U.S. and not a word of coverage anywhere.

>The highest rate of bank failures is THIS year. Scary isn't it?

Yes. The commercial real estate collapse is upon us, it just came as a long slow drawdown as opposed to a crash as I had expected.

I cannot tell you how much fun it has been in commercial real estate in the Sacramento region the past 2 years. I can only ;).
