That's like saying when my car gets a flat I have the opportunity to change a tire. <s>

The story of open source projects, for the vast majority, is that without major corporate support they tend to wither. There are a few exceptions, but the studies I've read about were done by Open Source advocates, so I think they are likely accurate.

Now, Jimmy says that MS has big plans for IronJS. We'll see. As I said, without a leader who enforces a clear vision and sets the targets for the organization, middle-management infighting will cause wavering back and forth, as the political battle waxes and wanes. I'm not a Rubyite, but it's a darn shame. And makes Microsoft look like the type of company that can't be bothered to keep its word: if they had gotten the language done, including VS integration, and then said "well, we've done what we said we would do, and now it's up to the community to keep developing it," that would have fulfilled the commitment they made to bring IP and IR to .Net.

>Jimmy Schmenti, now formerly of Microsoft and who worked on IronRuby and IronPython, announces the end of IronRuby support by Microsoft. http://blog.jimmy.schementi.com/2010/08/start-spreading-news-future-of-jimmy.html

>As he points out, this is a typical middle-management decision in a large corporation. Well, a large corporation with a lack of vision at the top: it's possible to be different, just very difficult.

>There have been posts on twitter (I refuse to use the twitter term that rhymes with "sweets", because there are too many posts that are more like the term that rhymes with "carrot") talking about Iron Ruby and community support and the opportunity for a larger community effort.
