As I understood, original research was done by Turkish government, perhaps for reasons of helping/protecting those woman,
by rising awareness and creating legislation against it. When studies are made, then you have whole range of cases from those mild to very very serious cases.
But then comes CNN and (as they usually do) made it all sound as if 4 out of 10 woman in Turkey were walking around with bondage across their heads like this poor woman. (I can almost understand Kevin's compassionate reaction {g} ) Srdjan, I have to wonder about how concerned the Turkish govt actually is with helping/protecting these women. Turkey has been blasted by numerous human rights groups for the very low # of shelters provided for abused women.
This is speculation on my part - I have no smoking gun to prove it - but from where I sit, Turkey hasn't been very proactive in addressing an issue (violence against women) that is known all around the world.....and efforts to address it are usually tied to the EU or when pressured from the outside.
