I'm in the business because I like solving problems and making money.

I don't take on projects where I'm not going to make at least 10k, so 2k up front is their commitment to me that they are serious and recognize the value of the solution they're asking me to provide to them.

It wasn't always like that. Back around 1980, I got burned a couple times and decided to weed out the cheapskates before I made a large investment in time.
