They were disproportionately axed during a mass firing after poor second quarter financials. The distribution department was not the problem. They were doing their jobs, were nice people around the coffee machine and the train platform. The problem was some spectacularly bad new product bets by top management. But no, their heads weren't the ones to roll. The people who were tossed into unemployment in a rotten economy were the most poorly paid in the company. And AFAIK they were fully legal workers. They were scapegoats and it really steamed me. It's the boneheads with six figure incomes who made bad decisions on dumb products who should have been axed.

>>I respect that position. But I remain firm in my opinion that immigration is the entire history of our country. My people did not come here on the Mayflower and I bet yours didn't either. We are the place people want to come to. Give me your tired, your poor.... This resistance to newcomers is a recent phenomenon. People have been coming here for over 200 years, including the original British immigrants. British, French, Germans, Scandinavians, Africans (AFTER slavery), Jews, Hispanics. I get choked up every time I see a picture of the Statue of Liberty. That's who we are.

>Yep. They come here legally, they learn ENGLISH, they become citizens. By far and wide they become proud of their new country - the United States of America.

>Sneak in over the border and steal services, sneak money out of the country, bust out your Mexican Flag to show your patriotism to your dirtbag good for absolutely nothing excuse of a country that your people are responsible for, and try to get people to be sympathetic to your 'cause'? Force march to the very nearest border and over you go. The border is the ocean? Hope you can swim a LONG way because you get shot trying to reinfiltrate.

We could not disagree any more profoundly. I suspect I know a lot more Mexican Americans than you do, which does not make me right. The same as you and me -- they value their families, cherish their children's futures (line stolen from JFK), and love this country.

Mexican Americans hold on to their pride in their native country as well as their new one. That's nothing new, either. They work hard, much harder than me undoubtedly. They want a better life for themselves and their children. Can you sincerely blame them for that? It's an accident of geography, a rich nation sharing a border with a poor one. I live in an area with lots of Hispanics, legal and illegal, and I enjoy Cindo de Mayo. It's a joyous day.

We can let this rest. We will probably never agree about it.
