>We have a DOS Clipper app that is running on a XP Pro PCs on a network. We are running into problems with the app locking up and locking DBFs and indexes. The network admin has to release the file locks in order for the user to resume work. Also, the indexes are usually corrupted and always need reindexing.

Yes, IIRC, you had to put FILES=80 or so, but there was another similar setting that I can't remember, which should be about 40 (something about locks, or maybe buffers?), and these went into the config.sys.
You may need to create a separate config.nt (and maybe autoexec.nt) and link them to your Clipper exe, probably by using a .pif file (yep, .nt stands for New Technology, and we know how new .pif files are).
Or I may have been attacked by those Al Zheimer terrorists... so double check whatever I said, I may remember wrongly. It's been about 13 years since last I had to try this.
