His defense is currently that he only confessed because he was tortured. If a juror has a pre-conceived (accurate or not) that torture occurred while he was there, then he is predisposed to believe his defense instead of waiting for evidence at trial to prove/disprove his defense.
Did you read the link(s) I provided in my previous response? they go more into detail on the questions/answers and reason for the dismissal...it was not soley because the officer thought it should be closed, it was WHY he thought it should be closed. Also, other jurors were dismissed as well for reasons that the defense thought they would be biased.
