When you're installing SQL Server, make sure to chose mixed mode authentication. Specify some password for sa (you will be able to change it if needed, but better remember it). So, you will be able to use Windows Authentication and SQL Server authentication when needed.

Also, make sure to install SQL Server Express version with Tools otherwise you will need later to install SSMS separately.
