Why go to disk at all? There's "Save to memo" command which does the same.

The reason I'm not doing that is when you restore, all the saved variables are private and scoped to the code where the restore command was issued. Generally not too usable in the OOP world (and wasn't too good in FPD days, for the same reason).

Storing object properties into a XML, then zipping it and saving the compressed form into a memo, now that's a different game.
