>Although the friendly & neighborly promises from mr Kuhn, mr Goff, mr Hankey and the likes of them were strongly calling me to stay, and the speed with which the legislature was rectifying the human condition of the immigrants looked really promising - it all looked as opening many new chances. But then, our family is a democracy, and we just decided that life should be simpler where we have no status problems.

US H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa - it is meant only for employers to be able to hire from overseas for a short period of time up to 6 years maximum. It is meant to benefit the employer when qualified workers cannot be found locally. It is only a work permit and temporary in nature. So in essence, there is no "immigrant" status involved at all. Why didn't you apply for a green card while you were here?
